Our Story

Moving ME Forward (MMF) was established in 2013 by founder Robert “Bob” Brainerd. For more than 30 years, Bob has been inspiring and coaching people of all levels and abilities to achieve their health and fitness goals. He believes “giving back should always start in our own communities.”

Bob and the MMF Board hopes to inspire young individuals to become Health Professionals who stay in Maine, creating innovative ideas that will also “Give Back” to their communities.

Current Board Members: Bob Brainerd, Pam Edgecomb, Donna Beaulieu, Shellie Howe, Deanne Michaud, and Diane Rogers.

Our Mission

To mentor, provide resources, and opportunities for individuals who want to work in the Health/Fitness industry, creating a rippling effect on the wellbeing of our community.

Our Vision

To be a local champion of change in the areas of health and fitness within our Maine communities.

How We Help
Make a Difference

Through granting monies, mentoring aspiring professionals, establishing community programs and donating to local non-profits, the mission of Moving ME Forward ripples outward throughout our community.

Sponsor Fitness Professionals

Each year, MMF awards up to $10,000 in grant monies to professionals who have developed seed projects that meet the MMF’s vision and mission. Within the first five years, these seeds planted by MMF began to spread and to grow within the community.

Establish Local Programming

MMF helped establish 2 Experiential Exercise Science Associate Degree programs at Central Maine Community College. In addition, we have established many wellness programs and initiatives in our community.

Work with Other Non-profits

We recognize the importance of working with other non-profit organizations to grow healthier communities. We annually donate collected goods, volunteer hours, and financial support. Our beneficiaries have included:

  • Good Shepherd Food Bank
  • St. Mary’s Nutrition Center
  • Trinity Jubilee Center
  • Auburn’s Police Athletic League
  • Tree Street Youth
  • New Beginnings
  • Camp Lawroweld
  • Local High School and College Athletic Programs

Funding Moving ME Forward

Funds for Moving ME Forward are generated through the registration fees of participants in the annual Lake Auburn Half Marathon, Moving ME Forward Running Club fees, corporate sponsors, and donations.
